How to buy and where to use the Kyoto City One day Subway Pass

Riding the subway can some times be quite expensive especially in Kyoto even when traveling one stop can cost 220 yen. Using the subway frequently in one day for sightseeing or doing business can be rather expensive. Luckily there is a solution the Kyoto Subway 1 day pass. It costs 800 yen, you can buy it not only on weekends or holidays but week days too, and you can use the Subway as much as you want all day long.


How to buy the one day pass:

Go to a ticket machine at any subway station in Kyoto. Press Subway One-Day Pass


This says this ticket is only valid for use the on the day you buy the pass. Press Ok


Press the pink button to buy the ticket


Press the gray 800 to buy the ticket. The ticket machines are cash only. Pay for the ticket.


Where you CAN use the pass

The Kyoto City Subway can be confusing because it links to several different lines such as the Kintestu and Keihan Keishin line.

The one day ticket can ONLY BE USED on two lines the Karasuma Line from Takeda to Kokusai Kaikan stations and The Tozai Line Uzumasa Tenjingawa station to Rokujizo stations.


About Yamashina Station:

IMPORTANT: If your using the one day pass and you plan to get off at Yamashina. Take the Tozai Line train bound for Rokujizo and get off at Yamashina. The pass is invalid at Keihan Yamashina stations.

Kintetsu line is also linked with the Kyoto Subway line and sometimes you will see trains on the Karasuma line going to Nara and points South. The One day pass can only be used until Takeda station and CAN'T be used for Fushimi station and points south in Kyoto.

Teramachi Shopping street

Get off at Shiyakusho Mae on the Tozai line or 4 Jou Karasuma stations and you can go to the Teramachi, Shinkyogoku, and Nishiki Shopping streets.


Oike Dori

Easy access from the Tozai line and Karasuma Oike station

Oike Dori is one of the main streets in Nakagyoku. It is famous for shopping and cafes. Oike Dori also has many historical markers on the steets that connect with Oike Dori. If your interested in Kyoto history and way streets are named the way they are this is a great place to visit.


Shin Sen En

Shin Sen En

Shin Sen En is located near Nijou Castle on Oike Dori. Get off of Nijoujou Mae station and its about a 7 minute walk to Shin Sen En.

The Kyoto Imperial Palace is located near Karasuma Marutamachi station.
